PET felt, also known as polyester felt, is largely made from recycled PET bottles. During the production process, these bottles are converted into fibres that are then compressed into felt sheets.
The result is a durable board material with a unique texture, available in 3 thicknesses and 52 colours. It is often used for applications such as (acoustic) panels for the wall and ceiling.
Tips for processing PET felt
Here are some handy tips for processing PET felt:
1. Provide the right tools and materials
Before you get started, it is essential to have the right tools and materials on hand. These can vary depending on your specific project, but some basic supplies include a box cutter or band saw, a cutting ruler and possibly an assembly kit to glue the PET felt together.
2. Choose the right cutting method
PET felt can be cut in different ways, depending on your project and available tools. For example, you can use a Stanley knife or band saw to cut the felt to size.
3. Be careful when cutting
When cutting PET felt, precision is important. Make sure you make a straight cut and avoid frayed edges. A sharp cutter knife and a cutting ruler will help you do this.
4. Consider glue for mounting
When the surface area of the PET felt product exceeds 1m², our self-adhesive backing is a supporting factor.
We then recommend additional gluing with the better mounting kit for placement on the wall or ceiling.
5. Consider various mounting methods
PET felt can be mounted in various ways, such as with our self-adhesive backing (for small areas of felt), with a better mounting kit or by means of screws.
6. Consider sound absorption
One of the advantages of PET felt is its sound-absorbing property. When using the felt for acoustic purposes, make sure it is not mounted behind a cabinet or other object.
When you use the PET felt as a notice board, the sound-absorbing properties also disappear.
7. Maintain the felt properly
Once you have completed your project, it is important to take good care of the PET felt. Dusting once in a while and avoiding direct sunlight extend the life of PET felt.
