Step-by-step plan: Easily apply self-adhesive felt

Applying self-adhesive felt offers a quick and easy way to beautify your walls. Whether you're opting for a stylish accent wall or looking to improve the acoustics in your space, with a few handy tips, you can achieve a sleek final result. Follow this step-by-step guide and discover how to apply self-adhesive felt correctly.

    Requirements for applying self-adhesive felt:

    • Self-adhesive felt
    • A cleaning cloth or microfibre cloth
    • Spirit level
    • Measuring tape or ruler
    • Masking tape (optional)

Step-by-step plan for a perfect result

    1. Preparation of the wall

Ensure that the substrate is clean, dry, and free of grease. Use a damp cloth to remove dust and dirt. Note: the felt adheres best to smooth, even surfaces such as paint, wallpaper, or smooth plaster. Avoid rough or porous walls.

    2. Measure and plan the layout

Use a tape measure and level to determine the position of the felt on the wall. Optionally, draw light guide lines with a pencil or use masking tape to mark the correct placement. If you already have a clear line or reference point, you can skip this step.

    3. Apply the self-adhesive felt

Gently peel back a small part of the protective film on the back of the felt. Start at a corner and work slowly downwards, so you have control over the placement. For larger pieces, gradually remove the film while pressing the self-adhesive wall covering down. For smaller pieces, you can remove the protective film all at once, as they are easier to position. Always press the felt with the adhesive layer firmly to ensure a tight and sturdy result.

Tips for a sleek final result

    • Work slowly and patiently to avoid mistakes.
    • For larger surfaces, you can collaborate with someone who holds the foil while you apply the felt.
    • Avoid dust in the area during application to prevent it from getting onto the adhesive layer.
